State Court of Dekalb County

The State Court of Dekalb County was created by the acts of the Legislature of 1951, as amended. The State Court became a Constitutional Court in 1983, and has jurisdiction within the territorial limits of DeKalb County.

Mission

To provide an independent, accessible and responsive forum for the just resolution of legal disputes and criminal matters in a manner that preserves the rule of law and protects the rights of all parties.

Division A

House Bill 77 Legislation passed in July 2021 and made effective January 1, 2022. The new law, provides that the current Jury Division be renamed DIVISION A. The name Jury Division will not be used on and forward of January 1, 2022 and shall be referred to as DIVISION A of the State Court of Dekalb County.

DUI Court

The mission of the DUI Court Program is to enhance public safety by reducing recidivism of DUI offenders by breaking the cycle of addiction through a combination of individualized treatment, personal accountability and intensive court supervision to promote individual responsibility and citizenship and return a productive member back to the community.

Division B

Traffic Violations Bureau

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. Ā§40-13-50, a traffic violations bureau is established for the handling and disposition of certain traffic cases. This order governs state law traffic violation cases being heard at the State Court of DeKalb County Division B facility at 3630 Camp Circle, Decatur, GA 30032 by judges designated as State Court judges, and serving in that capacity in the State Court Division B. Said division was created pursuant to HB 300 passed during the 2015 session of the Georgia General Assembly and signed into law by the Governor on March 3, 2015.
