Kennesaw Municipal Court

The Kennesaw Municipal Court was established by the Georgia legislature. Municipal Court exercises limited jurisdiction over both civil and criminal matters.

Overview

Kennesaw Municipal Court handles all city ordinances as well as state misdemeanor violations. Crimes like shoplifting of items $500 or less in value, and misdemeanor marijuana possession of less than an ounce can be handled in the city court either by plea or a non-jury trial (aka “bench trial”).

Serious traffic misdemeanors like Driving Under the Influence may be resolved, too. But, if one wants a jury trial on a state misdemeanor violation, your case will be bound up to Cobb County State Court off Marietta Square.

Judges

Each of the ten judges who staff the bench is elected to four-year terms of office.

  • Chief Judge Philip P. Taylor
  • Judge Joan Vaughn Bloom
  • Judge Joel H. Siegel
